Blood Son is a vampire short story written by Richard Matheson about a boy named Jules who wants nothing more in life than to become a vampire. He obsesses over the subject, eventually stealing Dracula from the local library until it is memorized.
For a school project, he writes his life "ambition" to which he terrifies his schoolmates and teacher by telling them that he wants to become a vampire in gory detail.
Later, he wanders the streets, lost and confused, yearning for something in life, but not knowing what. That is when he discovers the vampire bat at the local zoo, bringing back his vigor for life.
He steals the bat at presents himself to it in order to become a vampire himself, but not before having second thoughts before it is too late to turn back.
