Carly Beth Caldwell is a character in the R. L. Stine novellas The Haunted Mask, The Haunted Mask II, The Scream of the Haunted Mask. She is also mentioned in a number of other books in the Goosebumps series and its spin-offs.
She was played by Kathryn Long in the television adaptations.
Carly Beth is easily frightened. She's constantly the butt of practical jokes by Chuck Greene and Steve Boswell, who love to watch her scream. With Halloween coming up, she wants to have a scary costume to pay them back. However, her mother, Kate, has created a duck costume for her.
One day Carly goes into a shop looking for the perfect scary mask. She winds up finding a green one that terrified her. The shop owner tells her the mask is too scary and that it's not for sale. She begs and pleads and offers all the money she has on her until finally he relents and sells it to her.
While wearing the mask Carly is compelled to scare everyone she comes in contact with during Halloween. She winds up scaring Chuck and Steve and wants to take the mask off but it won't come off. She goes to her friend, Sabrina, for help, but Sabrina notices there's no seam between the mask and Carly Beth's skin.
She returns to the shop and the shopkeeper tells her that only a symbol of love can make the mask come off. The symbol of love is the plaster head that Carly Beth's mother created for her. She managed to take the mask off and defeat the group of other masks that were coming for her.
